The power of positive thought can wreck your life or protect your life
There have been all kinds of things people have attempted to bottle and package you on the power of positive thinking. What is positive thinking? Why is there power in a thought that is spoken? And what is positive? What is the foundation for forming what we have defined as positive? No one asks those questions, yet they hold on to doctrines that deal with your own ability to influence your destiny through “positive thinking.” The key is to think positively… this is what they say. But without a solid foundation to understand what positive is… your “positive thinking” could be based on your own selfish desires. For instance… let’s say I have a bunch of people who do not like me. Without having an understanding of what positive is… my positive is to remove anyone from around me by any means necessary that pose a threat to me. To me that would be a positive thought. Or, my parents don’t want me to listen to explicit lyrics in the music I adore. They are invading my free will. So I want them removed so they don’t bother me. To the person who thinks this way… the positive thought to him would be to remove something from his environment or get away from something in his environment that challenges his thinking. The move to remove or get away can be viewed as “positive thinking” that you are acting on. But when positive thinking comes from a place of selfishness, envy, jealousy, covetousness, hatred, dissension, sexual immorality, fornication, adultery, strife and so much more… what formed that person’s version of “positive thinking” did not come from a place that wants to prosper you, to give you a hope and a future (Galatians 5:19-21).
Positive thinking that comes from the things mentioned above will cause anyone to make decisions they view as positive, but the manifestations of those thoughts only lead to hopelessness and death! In essence, “positive thinking” without the foundation of God (Jehovah, I am that I am, Yahwey) leads anyone on a broad road to destruction.
Point 1 – The foundation of your thinking must come from God. It must be renewed First!
Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Point 2 – His Holy Spirit will teach your mind new things that are lined up with God’s will for your life
John 14:26 (NIV)
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Point 3 – The Father will reveal to you liberally things of the spirit which is wisdom from Him
James 1:5 (NIV)
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Point 4 – Wisdom is a thought that comes from God which does not make sense to the natural man who leans on himself to understand.
Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Point 5 – The natural man calls God’s flow (wisdom) foolish because he has rejected God’s knowledge
Hosea 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
Point 6 – When we reject God’s knowledge (wisdom/thought pattern) we are rejecting God as we continue to lean on the patterns of this carnal/natural world to frame our thinking which is separated from God.
Romans 8:6-9 (NIV)
6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
Point 7 – The patterns of this natural world are initiated and led by satan. This is why it is enmity against God for it can not please God. Therefore, if your thoughts are formed based on the wisdom of a carnal world, then it will put you to shame. Satan wants to shame you and make you feel hopeless.
Ephesians 2:2-3 (AMP)
2 in which you once walked. You were following the ways of this world [influenced by this present age], in accordance with the prince of the power of the air (Satan), the spirit who is now at work in the disobedient [the unbelieving, who fight against the purposes of God]. 3 Among these [unbelievers] we all once lived in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by the sinful self], indulging the desires of [a]human nature [without the Holy Spirit] and [the impulses] of the [sinful] mind. We were, by nature, children [under the sentence] of [God’s] wrath, just like the rest [of mankind].
Point 8 – God gives us clarity about where thoughts come from that are not of him. And He shows us in his word that anyone acting on those thoughts are influenced by demonic presence that is deceiving thoughts. The thoughts to the person thinking them are positive to the one who is acting on them. But the foundation from which those thoughts were formed came from demonic influences that contradict God’s word.
Ephesians 6:12 (AMP)
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.
Point 9 – You have been looking for an ugly beat like creature to jump out and try to pull you away, but the subtle nature of satan has always been with mind manipulation going back to Genesis 3 in the Garden of Eden with Eve. His attack is on the mind to keep your mind captive on the weight of this crushing world. But the word of God tells us what to do with those thoughts that are not of Him.
2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (KJV)
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
Point 10 – You can’t cast down Imaginations/thoughts unless you are connected to God through Jesus Christ. You have to know what Positive thoughts are according to God. Those thoughts are only discerned if you have His spirit. You get His spirit when you believe in His son JESUS who showed us the way. He spoke to our minds to change our thoughts. He spoke of the Kingdom of God and used the power that came from that Kingdom in the earth. Faith is WHAT YOU BELIEVE. What does your thinking believe. What thoughts do you have about Jesus? Those thoughts form the basis of your effectiveness or lack thereof in the earth. Positive thinking without Jesus forming the foundation for how you think… won’t lead to good and acceptable fruit unto the Lord. When you let go of demonic thoughts… these are thoughts that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. Anything that is against God’s word is DEMONIC. This is what Jesus speaks of as He talks about the True vine in John 15 and what He does to the branches that are not bearing good fruit. Branches that embrace worldly thinking apart from God are being led by demonic influences. The stumbling blocks are there in the world… but as we thirst and hunger for righteousness… we will see clearer. When we shake off that thought that wasn’t of God… if we revisit that thought… it is a portal for even more thoughts to flood our mind through that portal we have opened up.
Matthew 12:40-47 (KJV)
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
That unclean spirit is demonic. It has the ability to manipulate thoughts. But it is removed when we put on the helmet of Salvation… the breast plate of righteousness as it is written.
Ephesians 6:13-20 (KJV)
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Remember… any thought that is not of God according to His word is DEMONIC. Are you led by demonic patterns? The battle has always been for your mind. There are only two patterns of thoughts… GOD or Satan (Good or Evil). What you lean on to direct your path will let you know what is leading you. How do you know? Because the direction you are going and the fruit that follows you does not line up with God’s word. Demonic possession is a takeover of your mind as satan leads your actions. Make sure your positive thinking has died to the ways of this world first and followed Jesus. And He forms the thoughts that line up with His word. Test those thoughts by what His word says! Bring it to the light at all times!
