Romans 6:14 - "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."
When you are no longer under the law, you are above the law. Many people believe that Grace gives them a free pass to choose sin as pleasure when and wherever they choose to act on it but that's not what grace is.. They base that thought process on the fact that the scripture in Romans from the Apostle Paul states "For ye are not under the law, but under grace." Grace is God giving those who receive Jesus Christ and Obey Jesus Christ a part of Him to overcome the dominion sin had over us. The key is to repent and turn from our sinful ways with a genuine heart. The genuine heart only makes way for the receiving of the Holy Spirit to give the person the strength he did not have before to now do what he genuinely wants for his life... a true change... requires a heart change. Grace means we get something we did not earn or deserve to resist those things that once had dominion over our lives. Grace is not a pass to go back to the same life we had before. If one goes back... one has not received Grace... the power, that always overcomes this world. You have to genuinely want to change... a heart that is tired of the life you have... and truly want to live in a manner opposite of corrupt nature. No, we can not will ourselves to do it without the power of the Holy Spirit which IS grace. Once you experience the power of the Holy Spirit working in you... those things that had you trapped are no longer holding you captive.
The law pointed out the sin, but could not get us to a place to overcome sin. The law crushed, but could not deliver you from the crushing weight of the law.. Jesus came and fulfilled the law (something we could not do) and then paid the penalty that we were on the hook for (death) for not holding up our end of the bargain in the old covenant. Jesus came and did what we could not do being in the likeness of sinful flesh... but he did not sin as he felt what we felt... but overcame this world by leaning on the spirit. So all we have to do is believe that he paid that penalty for us not fulfilling the law... the price being His blood... his death on our behalf and obey what He said for us to do...genuinely repenting of our sins... genuinely wanting change in our life and He will send the Great Comforter (Holy Spirit) to help us do what we could not do before on our own. The Holy Spirit brings power to the one who receives Him
John 15:26 - "When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father--the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father--he will testify about me".
. That's Grace manifested in the natural realm. And now you are able to fulfill the law (which is to love God with all your heart and Love your neighbors with all your heart the way God loves them) because the law (which is God's word) is now written in your heart. he resides in you... and He will correct (correction comes when we stumble - Matthew 18:22), guide (Proverbs 3:5-7), and teach you.
John 14:26 - "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
The word of God is His word... Jesus' words and if you read it before you received the Holy Spirit... He will bring what you read into rememberance as you are now able to naturally do right according to the Word of God as it is written. You can DEMONSTRATE the word. You now have power that you didn't earn which is grace. You have the power to overcome because you first surrendered to Jesus. A surrendering gets you dominion while still walking in this physical (natural) existence. You don't need a law to tell you what not to do or what to do... because you are able to do it without a law to tell you this is what you must do. That's why you are not "UNDER THE LAW", but instead you are ABOVE THE LAW due to the POWER known as GRACE!.
