What many people lack today is RESPECT for another individual's life experiences. A person's life experiences is that person's reality. But to often people devalue someone's life experiences in an attempt to just be right on the issue at hand.
If I have never experienced cancer... then I can not tell you how cancer should affect you. If I have never been a victim of domestic violence... I can not tell you how you should feel. If I have never walked an inch in your shoes.. I should not assume your walk is irrelevant. If I have never taken the time to get to know you individually apart from any group... then I can't speak truthfully about your character. Lives Matter when we respect the life experiences of every human being and listen and learn from that unique experience which may not be my experience... but it may be someone's reality. We have not displayed common values of human respect. You respect what you value... and in that moment... the actions speak louder than words when you genuinely listen and try to understand what you are hearing without dehumanizing someone because you have not had the same experience. If it is snowing in Minnesota, but there is sunshine and clear skies where I live in Hawaii... does not mean it's not snowing somewhere. I just am not seeing it in my environment at this moment. That does not mean it did not happen today somewhere else where I have not walked.
What we respect.. we will value what is shared. What we do not respect... we will never value what is shared. And in that moment.. we will know what matters to you. This is where actions speak louder than words.
